Photo 24

What is Photo 24?

Put simply; it's an organised 24 hour Photo event around London.  It is sponsored by Photography News in association with Nikon School and Photo 24 London.

On it's fourth year, this was my first time to attend and I was a little bit unsure of what to expect.  So it all kicked off at 12am on Friday 17th of June 2016 and ran until 12am on Saturday 18th June.  Some people went off in pairs or small groups from the start and others went along for some introductory and first time tips with a larger group lead by a couple of team members from Nikon School London.

As I have quite a bit of experience with photography anyway, I ended up just heading off with one guy I met and we stayed together for most of the first day into the early hours.  We walked through Covent Garden then on to Leicester Square, and onward towards Westminster and the London eye.

The weather was quite different and at various times of the day, we were dealing with sun, rain and heavy cloud.

For me living in London, I was no stranger to the sights we went to photograph but I wanted to challenge myself and change perspective of the common sights found around the big city.  I went equipped with 2 cameras; the Nikon D750 with the Tamron wide angle 15-30mm f/2.8 VC lens and I also had the Nikon D500 with the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC lens.

In my head I had ideas to capture the city with some wide angles, particularly around the Thames area and then with the 24-70, I wanted to capture some unique perspectives of the City.

At 2am we went on the 'night bus' which was a traditional routemaster bus with original windows and seats which were, I have to admit, a tad uncomfortable.  The bus took us around westminster, and the thames again, where I had walked for most of the day.  Seing it at night was again different and presented us with alternative challenges.

We anticipated sunrise at 4am but were greeted with cloud instead which brought the mood down somewhat as most of us were pretty tired at that stage.  The bus then drove around to charing cross where people got off for some much needed breakfast and refreshments then it was back to the Nikon School for the final stretch..

Amazing experience and I'd jump at the chance to do it all again.  For now, here's a taste of what we got up to.  #MyPhoto24
